No, we're not referring to Bastille-Day, the French National Day. We have a Triple-B-Day of our own.
1. B: It's Rich Cooper's birthday! In our video, that summarizes Wednesday's action, you will see that he got a very special birthday kiss.
2. B: The weather still was not cooperating. Everywhere we could see the saturated soils from the - partly heavy - rains of the previous weeks. Our first stop was Botchenalp. To reach the Alp of the Amacher family we had to hike for about 1 hour. The path was wet and over long stretches steep (just ask Mark). Nadja Amacher, the daughter, and the beautiful dog "Joy", were our trusted guides. It was our first visit to this gem, tucked into the mighty Bernese Alps, a little plateau surrounded by woods. And, as always, the welcome was genuine, and we enjoyed a lunch with the cheeses made by Alexander Amacher.
3. B: In the afternoon, we moved to central Switzerland and Alp Bleiki. Here we could avoid the rain and drove up to Bleiki. Paul and Agnes Barmettler are one of the six original Adopt-an-Alp farmers, and their Alpsbrinz is a top seller since 2013. And we could taste Bratkäse, the central Swiss version of Raclette.
For the evening we entered the monastery down in the valley in the picturesque town of Stans. The abbey has been transformed into the "Culinarium Alpinum" where the motto "The Culinary Heritage of the Alps" is dominant. The inside is beautifully renovated, with a modern touch. We enjoyed dinner with Axel and Christian, the owners of the "Molki Stans", producers of - amongst other products - the Stanser Röteli and Fladä.
