Kudos for Bleiki, Charetalp, and Heuboden

Posted on December 30, 2021
We are always delighted to get reviews of our Alp cheeses from customers. The latest one comes from Brad Daschbach of Talbort&Arding in Hudson Valley. He sends Kudos to the cheesemakers Paul Barmettler (Alp Bleiki), Erich Betschart (Charetalp), and Fritz Tschudi (Heuboden, Glarner Alpkäse AOP): Hi Caroline!  Happy holidays and a Happy New Year to you. I just wanted to drop a quick note from the T&

Kudos to an apprentice

Alp Maran
It was a special day for the "Alpsennerei Maran". Not that the dairy with master cheesemaker Walter Niklaus was amongst the winners at the "Swiss Alpkäse Awards" in St. Gall, that's quite normal. However, the gold medal in the category sheep and goat cheeses was for the white mold goat cheese made by... Selina Senti. And she is the apprentice in the dairy! Looks like a star is born. The top three

The traditional awards ceremony for "Alpkäse" during the OLMA in St. Gall, the biggest Swiss agricultural exhibition, was a success for many farmers that are part of the Adopt-an-Alp program. Alp Schwägalp (cheesemaker Albin Gräzer) and Alp Gummen (Reto Rüttimann) took the two top plac

Alp Heuboden
With the month of September coming to an end it was time on Alp Heuboden to prepare for the return to the valley. To pack everything is a labor intense task. Once the animals have left there's still a lot to do. Clean up, taking the fences down etc.

On Sunday the animals said good-bye to the pastures on Alp Braunwald. After more than three months the cows return to their winter homes. Until next year!

Alpe Givrine
In general, it has been a lousy summer in Switzerland. There was a lot of rain, especially in July which will go as the wettest since the start of collecting data. But, of course, there were some wonderful days as well. As the photos show from Alp Givrine (Alpage Gruyère AOP) in the Jura mountains. Earlier, the Pradervand family and cheesemaker Luc Humbert received some special guests: John Keife

Many people are involved on just a normal day on Maran in the ski resort of Arosa. But at the end there's quite a palette of products to show for. Watch the video.

On top of the world

Alp Braunwald
Some envy, even jealousy, can easily come up if you look at the pictures of the cows on Braunwald Alp: Don't you think they feel being on the top of the world, especially with this kind of weather? Of course, you have to walk or hike up there. Just look at the cows, how strong and healthy they look after a summer in high altitude. It's not for weak animals. The other side of the medal is that the
